Introduction

The purpose of the application is to learn new foreign words. Learn a new language by sitting in a comfortable chair and being relaxed!

The solved problem

What kind of problem does the application solve? The application solves the problem of lack of knowledge of words in their audio form.

Most 6-year-old children have greater ability to speak and understand a language than a person who learn a new language later in their life. But most people learn it by using textbooks and other text tools like applications.

When people learn a foreign language they often put more effort to learn texts and rules. The default tool for learning a language in the XX century was a book. Nowadays we have far more tools like applications. But people still learn the text and rules, though in a modern way. The problem is that real language is sound: consonants and vowels. There was sounds at the beginning of people communications. Letters were discovered later. Learning a language by using visual means causes language to not be learned properly.When people learn a foreign language, they often put more effort to learn texts and rules. What are the results? The inability to communicate verbally. Learners can read books, even complex ones. But they have difficulties when they need to talk to someone. The sign of this syndrome is when they use captions when watching foreign movies!

Talking is superior to reading. When one reads, one has a lot of time to understand the meaning of the words. When writing, one has a lot of time to express his/her thoughts and check spelling or use a dictionary. But when one need to talk, there is only a fraction of a second to understand the word. The whole sentence needs to be understood in a second or two and a response expressed in the next few seconds.

Thanks to the application, the audio form of a word can be learned efficiently and quickly.

Background player

The check screen is a special tool. It allows the system to check which words are learned or not learned. If the word has not been learned, yet, it is added back to the chain of words for learning. The screen is basic -user listens to foreign words. If he/she knows the meaning in their native language, it means the word is learned — so the user presses the button “OK”. If the overdoes not know the word, it presses the button “I do not know”.

Check screen

The application contains a background sound player. This special player plays a background audio track. It can be the sound of sea waves, mountain creek or any other relaxation music. It was added for 2 reasons. The first reason: thanks to this, it is possible to add some delay in front of and at the end of the learning process to be able to relax more easily. The second reason: a mean for isolating from unwanted noise from outside. The balance and audio volume can be set independently for each course.

Multi-course feature

Multi-course learning: the application has a clever approach for learning courses. There is a learning list. It contains all courses which will be learned. Because every course comprises words, when the end of the course is approaching, the number of words to learn is small. So the application takes words for learning from the next course. Thanks to this solution, there is no need to finish the first course to learn the second one.

The application automates learning words by playing the words in a specific order and with a specific algorithm. The date and hour of repetition are saved to the server. So the next occurrence of the word in the future can be calculated.

There is no complex system for repetition of words during learning with the application. The words are learned to be used, not to be recalled from time to time. Therefore, after some time, the learning word stops to be learned. So it gives a place to learn new words. And the language is learned to be used: watching foreign television or speaking to a native speaker is usually the best idea after learning some words.

Differences between existing solutions and the application

The effort is put on learning audio version of the words — the user is taught how the word sounds, not how it looks like. People who like to learn visually can benefit from the application too. Because even they use their native language in audio form — they think verbally! The application is a simple solution: a simple algorithm, simple rules and the application is simple to use.

Method description

The application plays words in few sessions. Every session contains few repetitions of words. It has to pass some time before next session can be learned. The default period is 12h hours.

Repetitions. Learning of a word consist of 3 sessions by 5 repetitions of every word per one session. Every session can be repeated not earlier than 12h hours later. After 3 consecutive sessions (which take 3 days), there is a check. If the check is negative, and you don't remember that word, it is added to the queue of next 3 sessions with 5 repetitions. If the check is positive, the word still be checked from time to time.

Listen to words while being relaxed. You may close your eyes. Keep attention to the words. You don't need to try to remember the words. Don't try to watch the words on the screen.

Usually, it is enough to spend a half hour per day. After some time, you may adjust your time according to your needs and available time.
